Memorable Places - Soap Lake Speedway

The need for speed. It was a contagion across the U.S. in the 1950’s and ’60’s, and Soap Lake, WA, had it bad. From the early 1950’s to the very early 1970’s—the Soap Lake Speedway revved the town on Saturday nights with the sounds and excitement of stock car racing.

Crescent Dairy
​Among one of the finest ranches and businesses in the entire county of Grant is the Crescent Dairy, owned and operated by E. F. Schieb. The dairy herd, barn and equipment necessary to properly maintain the high standard of sanitation indispensable to serving the public in a business of this highly particular character, are located on a ranch of 320 acres near Soap Lake. 


The buildings to be found here are of the best and most modern, into which have been incorporated highly scientific ideas.

May Day​
Into the 20th century, America  celebrated the innocence of spring.  Flowers, candies and other goodies were gathered in handmade baskets and secretly hung on the front door knobs of friends, neighbors and loved ones.  The gifter rang the doorbell and ran away.  If the recipient of the gift caught the giver, a kiss was allowed.
 
May Day Festival was an important celebration in Soap Lake for many years. Our town held beauty pageants, parades and grade school programs with proud parents watching from the side lines.
