CRESCENT DAIRY AMONG BEST IN THE NORTHWEST

​Among one of the finest ranches and businesses in the entire county of Grant is the Crescent Dairy, owned and operated by E. F. Schieb. The dairy herd, barn and equipment necessary to to properly maintain the high standard of sanitation indispensable to serving the public in a business of this highly particular character, are located on a ranch of 320 acres near Soap Lake. Of this acreage 120 are under cultivation.
 
A picture of the fine large ranch house located on the place is shown with this article.  The building to be found here are of the best and most modern, into which have been incorporated highly scientific ideas.
 
A herd of thirty head of T.B. tested cows, a perfect herd, is the source of supply for the dairy, which supplies a large patronage in this section.
 
A large portion of the pasturage is planted with alfalfa, the whole being irrigated by a pumping plant with a large motor for the lift.  A portion is also put in orchard land with bearing fruit trees.
 
The cost of handling this large acreage is very nominal, in fact, is cheap considering the income from the property during the course of the year.  The ranch as a whole under the efficient management of the now present owner, Mr. Schieb, has been kept up to an unusual high state of efficiency.  In fact the entire management has been of the best possible to achieve and Mr. Scheib should be complimented in this business review for the able methods that he has employed.
 
While the business has been under his management for some years, he spent a great deal of time prior to this on the Coast and has been interested in some large businesses.
 
A trip of inspection over this valuable property will show one what correct management can do with the right materials in this great Grant County. Lights and water in the house with a fine large basement constructed of cement in which the dairy operations are handled.  The matter of forage crops for feed for the large herd is taken care of by the land under cultivation, the land producing a quantity of feed together with an outlet for all products of the dairy business, as a consequence, prospers.
 
Owing to ill health and other outside business, Mr. Scheib now offers this ranch for sale.  Reasonable terms will be made, a trade will be considered.  Price and terms will be quoted on application. The Crescent Dairy was purchased in 1920 by Emile F. Scheib. The date of this offering for sale is unknown. The dairy was not sold but turned over to his son Lawrence H. Scheib in 1933. Lawrence and his wife, Agnes, continued to operate the dairy while raising their family on what family referred to as “the ranch.” Both Agnes and Lawrence passed away in the 1970s. The original house still stands on High Hill.

This dairy was a big part of families’ lives.

Lawrence and Agnes were my grandparents. They were very active in the community and the church. They had 30 grandchildren, most of whom attended Soap Lake Schools.
